2024-25

Hampton Court Palace

After months of waiting, we finally got to see our tiles on display at Hampton Court Palace!

It was a long and busy day but totally worth the wait. We looked around the Palace and saw the massive kitchens, the beautiful banquet hall, chapels, gardens and even bumped into Henry VIII, Mary Boleyn (Ann Boleyn's sister) and Cardinal Wolsey themselves!

After lunch we walked around the Tudor Festival where we learnt how coins were made, how the money was recorded and graduated from Knight School!!

Hampton Court

Cheltenham Science Festival

We had a fantastic day at the science festival (despite the rain!). There were so many interesting and interactive things to do and learn. However, the highlight was definitely the Rude Science lecture and seeing Miss Chester on stage!!

Sci Fest 24

We went to the Broadway Museum

and had a brilliant morning learning all about how people travelled in the 1700s. The coach journeys were long, uncomfortable and very dangerous, especially if you came across a Highwayman!

Broadway Museum 24

We had a fantastic Spring treat this afternoon and got to cuddle some very cute lambs!!

Sculpture at Kingham Lodge

After weeks of hard work with Mrs Stoneham the wait was finally over and we got to see our amazing Water Dragon in situ at Kingham Lodge. We were blown away with how many fantastic sculptures by both professional artists and schools were on display in the beautiful grounds of the Lodge. If you get a chance to go, you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful Bluebells

Wow, what amazing weather we have had this week! We made the most of it and combined our navigation skills (using a compass) with a lovely walk up the hill to a beautiful Bluebell Wood. We also took our sketch books and sat in the shade chatting and sketching. A wonderful afternoon of Awe and Wonder.

C4 Bluebells

Class 4 thoroughly enjoyed planting a variety of bushes in our spiritual area this week - a massive thank you to Mr Webb who not only donated the bushes but also helped us prepare, plant and protect the young bushes.

As part of this unit we also investigated how light travels and therefore how periscopes actually work. Obviously we had to test them by making dens in forest school and spying on each other!

Kingham Hill Science Afternoon

As part of Science week class 4  had a fantastic afternoon of science experiments based around the theme of  gases. In Biology we looked at the gas produced by pond weed, how water fleas survive and we inflated a sheep lung! In Physics we made mini helicopters and investigated whether air resistance was affected by the size of the propellers. Chemistry went off with several bangs as we mixed alka seltzers and water in a sealed container, relit matches using gas and watched several demonstrations on what happens when gases mix...ask us about elephants toothpaste!

Kingham Sci Day 24

Well done to Poppy, Arthur C and Annabelle who have reached the next round of cross country, managing to qualify out of a 100 children from the North Cotswolds. And a massive well done to Shayne, Lewis, Fionn, Henry, Isla and Grace who valiantly braved the weather to compete in this VERY tough race. I was very proud of all of them!

Class 4 have really enjoyed their sculpture workshops with Mrs Stoneham. Creating their own insects sculptures out of recycled materials, modroc and acrylic paints. Photos are 'work in progress.' look out for the finished masterpieces!

HENRY ON TOUR

English Heritage and Temple Guiting School Hailes Abbey Project

The Henry on Tour project is a joint venture with English Heritage, Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) and local schools around the sites Henry VIII visited on his Royal Progress.

The aim is to engage primary and secondary school students with the idea of Henry VIII’s vast court on the move, working in partnership with heritage sites that were stopping off points on the royal progress routes. They want to engage regional students with this fascinating aspect of Henry’s reign and encourage creative engagement with their local heritage sites as well as Hampton Court Palace.

The project will include outreach where students participate in creative workshops with an educator, artist or facilitator. They also have the option to showcase their outputs in an immersive Henry on Tour Tudor Schools Festival at Hampton Court Palace in June 2025. This colourful event is aimed at key stages 2-3 and Special Schools. The Festival will recreate the pageantry, excitement, and awe of a Tudor progress.

2025 Longborough Playground Opera tour of 'The Implausible Potions of Dr Dulcamara’ came to Temple Guiting on the 22nd January.
What it's all about?
The Implausible Potions of Dr Dulcamara, is based on the production of Donizetti’s Elixir of Love that tells the tale of  haughty Adina, loved by shy Nemorino, who's intimidated by the boastful Belcore - all of whom are hoodwinked by the unscrupulous Dr Dulcamarra. Love, longing,  lies and gossip, plus some magic potions and a lot of confusion make this story a brilliant one for children; remarkably not one drop of blood is shed this time!

Class 3 and 4 enjoyed a singing workshop and then assisted in the actual performance

Orienteering at Sherborne National Trust Park. Very cold but lots of fun!
